First of all I'd like to say "Welcome to the board!" Don't be shy, sign up & join our happy family. It's been far too long since the Jesus Lizard fans of the world have had an active online community to call their own so I've taken it upon myself to fill the void. So with further ado: here it is, you're looking at it.
New members, please feel free to use this thread to tell us a little about yourselves as you as the very first members of this revived community are crucial building blocks in reorganizing our community.
As for me, my name is Seth (aka Lamestain), I live in the USA (Illinois), I'm 22 yrs old, other than The Jesus Lizard some of my favorite bands are Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Melvins, Sonic Youth, Cows, Mudhoney, Scratch Acid, King Snake Roost, Steel Pole Bath Tub, Meat Puppets, Tad, Seaweed, Shellac, Flipper, Fang, Lubricated Goat, Fitz of Depression, etc... I'm a graphic designer by day and a guitarist/bassist by night.
Okay...rant over, thanks for coming, sign up, spread the word & tell us a little about yrself.

have you heard of DeKalb before? What part of Illinois do you live in? Yes, I've heard of DeKalb, but I've never been there. I live in the Peoria area (I justed moved to a smaller town outside of the city). Skin Yard, Mudhoney, Seaweed, Coffin Break, Love Battery, Beat Happening, Flop, the Fastbacks ... Steel Pole Bath Tub Great taste in music! Also I think it is kind of cool how the Jesus Lizard are from Chicago, because I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago ... But then there is also ... a couple of others that are from Illinois too. Don't forget Shellac! One more thing, I have never got a chance to hear Scratch Acid and that makes me sad. But oh well. Hopefully I can learn more about them on the board! Scratch Acid was a band that David Yow & David Wm. Sims were in down in Austin, TX in the early & mid 80s. After Scratch Acid broke up Sims & drummer Rey Washam formed Rapeman with Steve Albini. After Rapeman broke up Sims got back together with Yow in Chicago & formed The Jesus Lizard. Go find Scratch Acid's album "The Greatest Gift" - it contains all of their releases in one nice, neat little package. Also, if you like Shellac you should check out Rapeman.

Man you mentioned every seattle grunge band that didnt make it! I used to really love Skin Yard and I own a Flop cd. Flop had some crunchy guitars, live atleast. But back to SKin Yard. I wrote the po box one time for lyrics(before the internet) and Jack Endino wrote me back telling me Ben never printed his lyrics or some shit, but atleast he wrote me, that was cool.
I know what you mean about the TJL song titles references. I was on the train going back to the airport and saw the stops like Rodeo and Joliet and Cicero and it clicked in my head.
If anyof you are TJL fans and havent heard Shellac or Rapeman , theyre both in the same vein as the jesus lizard. Like someone mentioned, Simsy plays bass for Rapeman, and Ray Washams drumming is fantastic on that record. And with Shellac, the thing that comparable is the recordings(albini was the one who recorded most of TJL and records his band Shellac), Shellac has good rock drumming and nice bass(similar to Simsy's tone) .
i could go on and on and on when talking about My fovorite band of all time. so I'll stop now.
enjoy TJL, Dan M Detroit

I'll have to track down a copy of 1,000 Smiling Knuckles, I've never heard it. But I do have an original pressing of their Hallowed Ground LP on Toxic Shock records.

hey guys! firstly, thanks for creating this board! it has indeed been long overdue and thank you all for banding together.
i'm mardt (german/irish heritage) from london, england (the working class part). i'm not retarded but i'm a little skatty and fried, so i hope i don't bug anyone. i once had a ticket for tJL but was refused entry due to being underage at the time. i never got to see them live. i don't wanna talk about it!! other band favourites include: the albini three (big black/rapeman/shellac), craw, nirvana, babes in toyland, melvins, dial, the wipers, tar, silkworm, scratch acid, pil, cows, bastro, and earth. i'm currently bandless but i play bass. influences: david wm sims and kevin rutmanis. i don't have much to show for my years on this earth but i've been told i'm pretty so... i work as an electrician (whenever work is available), i'm learning the basics of sound engineering, and i help roadie/promote gigs.
every girl i've met who loves tJL has a drug problem.

Sadly, I never experienced tJL live either. I was too young while they were active to get into 21+ shows as well. It's a damn shame it is.
Welcome to the board crawer!
By the way, how many bassists do we have here??? armofinfant, crawer, myself...

I uploaded some songs i played on onto my myspace page. Let me know what you think. Pretty awesome stuff man! I really liked that Hyatt track. Knarly bass work & I liked the singer's spoken word style. The other two songs were pretty good too! Thanks for sharing! Maybe someday, if I get motivated enough, I'll do the myspace thing or something & upload some of my music.
