Also on Dime. I heard this one ages ago and forgot about it. Its interesting but lets face it; its not the same without Dave's vocals. He may or may not be on bass here. Maybe he could answer that.

Scratch Acid
'Music for and about Beautiful Women'
demo
1982/1983
Source\Lineage: SBD(m)>AN(1)>CD
1) The Scale Song
2) Later known as 'Lay Screaming'
Later known as 'Cannibal'
Later known as 'Lay Screaming'
3) later known as 'Lay Screaming'
line-up - Steve Anderson: vox, David Yow: Bass, David Wm. Simms: Guitar, Brett Bradford: Guitar, Reynolds Washam: drums
Here it is, probably the rarest thing I have ever run across, aside from the recently seeded "Beck - Complete 1992 Demos" which I helped unleash here on DaD. It is the original Scratch Acid demo direct from Bobby Beeman, a Stickman with a Raygun who has a heart of GOLD.
According to the liner notes of the "Greatest Gift" CD (T&GLP#76), Scratch Acid started off as a "Poster Band". Poster Bands weren't real bands, they would just banner the town with posters of a band name they liked. Many times, the bands actually came to fruition (the Butthole Surfers come to mind as a band that hasn't necessarily played under all the names in their arsenal).
While, it really seems by the liner notes that this incarnation of the band never played together, let alone recorded, that is a myth. Here is the only known recording of Scratch Acid's original line-up preserved in prestine quality. Bobby was a very good friend of Steve Anderson and I have no reason to not believe he got it straight from him, as he told me.
This is a strange little recording, as the song that would later be known as 'Lay Screaming' repeats three times, but I'm giving it to you exactly as it was given to me. The lyrics to the songs we know are different, therefore the names of the songs were probably changed once Yow did the right thing and took the helm. I just gave ya the songs they would later become known as...git it?
'Music for and About Beautiful Women' was supposedly Scratch Acid's motto back in the day, but these were not released under that title or even sold at shows, as far as I know. That's the only thing I've added to this. I say best guesstimate as to when these were recorded were late 1982 or early 1983. Definitely prior to Rey joining the Big Boys, but no telling how much before.
I would say with nearly 100% certainty that few people, if ANY, outside of Texas have even heard this. Before Mr B. brought this up, I'd say few people even knew this existed. It does, and here it is. BIG BIG ups go out to Bobby fer giving me this recording. It's in that spirit that I give it to the few who care...
